What's New is a new book, A Room Full of Shadows, about Ant X in search of significance in a world ending up with insignificance. This book is a memoir and dialogue with an Ant discovering all kinds of shadows in the artifacts displayed on the walls. It turns out to be more than what one sees on the surface.

The author takes a journey around his room in dialogue with an ant whose life seems insignificant. The quizzical book starts out, “Sometimes I feel like an ant.” The author discovers that we all end up with this feeling no matter how many stories we can tell or whenever we try to beat death. This book is a combination of stories about protests, the dynamics of music and art, the building of ponds and a gazebo, plus the work of a peacemaker. You will determine if the stories add up to what really matters or if we are pursuing the wrong goals?

A lot of time is spent on a beanbag chair, learning to cope with dark clouds of political change. Joining the narrative: “I plopped myself into the beanbag, snuggled into the puffy blanket and quickly closed my eyes. Darkness pulled me into a comfortable world, into a safe room. Of course it’s also a confessional world in which I have to admit that sadness overtakes me every time I think how a President of Chaos could be elected. Every core value that I hold dear is under attack as if a two-year-old wandered through a Trump romper room and gleefully pushed over all the blocks.

“My room is full of darkness every time I think how many were duped into following President Chaos. I wonder if his charm represents the opposite of what you would think, how low you can go, how crude you can be and still get away with it. In house upon household, families honor the rule that we do not talk politics or religion under this roof. Many turn to shallow exchanges to avoid divided households. Trivial concerns move in. People are limited in discerning political differences. Many are consigned to a world of insignificance or reduced to amusing themselves through the trivial wasteland of television The feeling of darkness last a long time, but shadows of hope still crisscross this secret room.

This is where the stories turn to the Lake of the Ozarks Parish, a creative leisure ministry. Another narrative shows how peacemakers expose the National Security Campus for creating the triggers for nuclear weapons and endangering the lives of its workers. The room reviews the biographical background of a love story and how one’s approach to parenting make an extreme difference to the next generation. The barrel was a topic for revealing the art of homiletics and a few sermons on social justice. The gentle flow of sailing expresses the joy of creation in another narrative. So many stories investigate the art and options of dying. This book reveals “A Room Full of Shadows,” not just darkness, but maybe a life fulfilled by insignificance.
