What are factors for starting DPF chapters?

November 3, 2011

There are no cookie cutter formulas, but still we found some factors in KC...

1. A sustainable community of peacemakers, finding persons staying for the long term.

2. A strong vision of peace. seeing peace as a major theme of Biblical understanding, not for escape or for violence.

3.  A support group, a haven for peacemakers.

4. Partnership with other peace groups.

5. Identifying a local project.

6.  Seeing peace of the ethical camp as a major focus beyond only a theistic camp.

7. Shift a "theology of the Next Meal," whereby those who pray, "God is Great, God is Good, Now we thank him for our food." can move into some critical thinking. Those who elevate an Omnipotent God and only look for positive things  often are attempting to guarantee their security, their next meal, their pensions, and lose the risk-taking of a peace stance.

8. Sorting out and avoiding entrapment by the rigid person who goes around saying, "Shut your mouth up about Peace.

9. Support traditional efforts; PEACE SUNDAY,  Shalom Congregations, Living Faith Awards, recruitment, celebrations of group, resolution building and letter writing.

10. Let it be a time of sharing and keeping up with peace and...

Mark Kenney served four months and after a vigorous trial Brian Terrell received six months. Ron Faust was sentenced to five years of parole on October 11, 2012, but at the first of the year Judge Whitworth had a change of heart and reduced the term to one year.
Ron reports, “I’m grateful. But there also is a vacuous feeling of why we should go through this charade of injustice when we saw the trespassing charge as disproportionate to the more serious charge of killing innocent children. Plus, we saw it as our duty to question an illegal violation of International law. We were doing the most responsible thing in the face of government deception, and thus acting on ethical principle, we saw this minor civil misdemeanor of trespassing not warranting such serious charges. Still grateful for the reduction, but wondering if dismissal of the sentence would have better grasped the real violation of the law."
"I stand in solidarity with those prisoners such as Brian Terrell and peace activists such...
